The Greatest LEGO Diorama in the Galaxy

Imperial Employee of the Month Jay Hoff has been hard at work building the greatest LEGO Diorama in this or any other Galaxy. An impressive, most impressive 37,000 pieces of LEGO (as well as, presumably, a scary amount of time and money), including 388 mini-figurines, went into this custom commemoration of the Emperor's arrival on the second Death Star.

This great moment in Imperial history was made in 2011 for Science Discovery Day at Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa. It uses an Imperial Shuttle Kit with custom designed Death Star hangar.

And yes, if you look closely enough, you might be able to spot a few Clone Troopers and a cameo appearance by Darth Maul, but only because they were really there at the time. Weren't you paying attention?

Thanks to Chris Nagle via Blastr for the tip.

The Prequels in 2.5 Minutes

It's probably fair to say that some Star Wars fans in recent years have had a few problems with the prequel trilogy, choosing not to see it as the upliftingly epic tale of how a slave boy on a desert planet grew up to become a magic cyborg 2 I.C. of an entire Galaxy.

Instead, the naysayers focus on nitpicky little problems like the "overly complex" and "boring" subplot about Galactic taxation, "too much" reliance on special effects (is that even possible?), "wooden" acting and "plot holes" so big you could drive a Death Star through them.

Let's see what they have to say about this: all three prequels, just the good bits, in under two and a half minutes. With LEGO.

Darth Vader: Conductor (Not Just of Electricity)

Get it? GET IT? *Sigh*

No doubt you'll be surprised to hear this but ... Darth Vader gets some bad press. Maybe it's the imposing cyborg armour or the lack of witty banter when addressing subordinates in the tea room during lunch break. Some might even suggest that it's the liberal use of his lightsaber for employee terminations, or the ability to choke someone to death with the power of his mind. [It seems like you can hardly kill anyone these days without someone getting worked up about it.]

But Darth Vader does loads of other great things you don't hear much about: he Sithscribes to numerous magazines, he stars in strange Japanese cellphone commercials, he's the Death Star's reigning Jenga champion, and now you can add Imperial Orchestra Conductor to the list:

We were pointed to this amazing series of 102 Lego Star Wars photos (Click Me!) by @starwars on the Twitter.

Do yourself a favour and check them out. Love them. Bask in their awesomeness.

It's amazing how many of them accurately represent life in the Empire.
